3 month Drawing and Painting Intensive
March, April, May 2016

Picture
I am teaching a 3 month Intensive in Brugge, Belgium!! March, April, May of 2016 at the Flemish Classical Atelier.  http://www.flemishclassicalatelier.com/angela-cunningham-course1#

Course Description: At the core of our visual literacy program is our firm belief that anyone can learn to draw and paint at any age, when provided the appropriate instructions.
This three months intensive program will provide the ‘student’ artist with the core training required to advance their skills as artists.

This three month long workshop will give students a chance to fully immerse themselves in the classical atelier techniques of Drawing and in Painting. The instructor will have a chance to fully introduce and explain the whole process from the start of a block-in to completing a fully rendered drawing the then finished painting. Students will begin with drawing in graphite the Cast and the Figure from life observation. Emphasis will be placed on accuracy of Block-in and Form Modeling. It is in the understanding and practicing of the visual tools of blocking-in that students develop their measuring and shape-seeing abilities. In the Form Modeling stage of drawing students are introduced to the principles of “light on form”. They are taught the pitfalls of purely visual observation and are introduced to a more conceptual way of seeing.

From the sixth week, the students will advance to Cast painting and Figure life painting in oils. Students will learn to paint in grisaille, followed by a full color palette.
Cast Coping and observing the Figure from life are traditional academic training methods that allow one to focus and fine tune foundational skills for high accuracy. Each student will get a chance to organize a strategic method of thought and process to develop a clear approach to drawing and painting.  Beginner and experienced students are welcome.

We will conclude the program with a celebration and an exhibition of all students and teacher’s work.

 2014 Workshops
I have some good Workshops lined up for 2014! If you or your loved one likes to travel or maybe your lucky and I'll be coming to your town.  Either way, signing up for a workshop. Here are a few of the workshop destinations for 2014:

-  North West Fine Art Studio, Vancouver, CANADA
November, 24th - 28th, 2014

Class Description: One week Portrait Painting or Drawing-The first day of the workshop will cover the understanding of 2-dimensional block-in using pencil on paper. Having an accurate block-in is the most important stage to drawing and painting. We will work with analyzing and improving our way of seeing to be more accurate to life. Students will learn to see flat shapes (mass drawing) to become more visually abstract with their thought process. Comparative measuring, angles, and alignments as necessary tools to use in a systematical approach will also be covered.

On the second day students will learn how to do an oil transfer of their drawing to canvas, as well as how to complete a one day color study. The rest of the week we will use the understanding of hue, value and chroma to paint 3-Dimensional Form. Organizing a palette as well as a mindset will enforce good controlled decisions and habits that will result in skills to accurately draw and paint what you see.

"Women Painting Women:  (R)evolution 2013 celebrates women artists and the female figure in painting, drawing and printmaking.   As a woman working in the arts, I applaud the exhibition's goal.  As the juror, I tried to choose work that was technically strong as well as work that represented a wide range of women as artist and as subject.   The quality of the entries was high and it was a pleasure to review them and choose this exhibition." - Ellen Simak, juror
